We are currently seeking a Code Enforcement Officer based in our Suwanee, GA office.

 

SUMMARY

 

The Code Enforcement Officer provides the full range of Code Enforcement duties and is fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Work is completed independently, receiving occasional instruction or assistance when new or unusual situations arise, applying well developed program knowledge, and exercising judgment and initiative. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall results. The Code Enforcement Officer also provides clerical and technical support to the Code Enforcement Division by receiving, processing, and responding to citizen complaints and requests for information and conducts investigations regarding various codes, ordinances and policies of the City. The incumbent refers complaints and requests to other agencies as appropriate and performs routine field investigations as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Receives citizen complaints in various formats such as in-person, by mail, telephone, etc.

· Demonstrates effective communication skills and techniques required for gathering, evaluating and transmitting information.

· Provides information regarding various code violations and related issues to the public, property or business owners, tenants, and/or complainants at the counter, in the field, electronically, or by telephone.

· Operates and uses modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages to accurately prepare and maintain a variety of correspondence, records, and reports.

· Appropriately logs complaints, assigns case numbers, and establishes case files.

· Inputs data and creates forms or appropriate letters and notices to property owners, tenants or business owners.

· Initiates field notices regarding routine violations.

· Researches a variety of internal and external records to obtain information relating to cases, applicable local and state laws, codes, ordinances, and policies.

· Performs initial and/or follow-up inspections or other field work as assigned.

· Performs routine clerical duties such as typing, filing, record keeping, report writing, data entry, and receptionist duties coordinating with clerical staff.

· Represents the City in a professional manner and effectively deals with the public to gain their cooperation in resolving problems and concerns.

· Performs related duties as required.

· Operation of company vehicle.

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

· One year of general office clerical work experience including public contact required.

· Computer proficiency and demonstrated knowledge of computer and tablet software applications

such as; word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases required.

· Knowledge of the principles and procedures of record keeping, filing, business writing, and basic report preparation required.

· GACE Level I and II or demonstrated experience in code enforcement, investigations, inspections, or enforcement of established standards is desirable.

· Two years (full-time equivalent) of college course work in code enforcement, building inspection, urban planning, or related discipline may be considered as a substitution for the required work experience.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and evenings is required.

 

CERTIFICATIONS

· Successful completion of IPMC training is required or must be completed within six months from date of employment.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Bilingual capability in Spanish is desirable, but not required. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, in person, by telephone, and in writing.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

· Possession of an appropriate, valid Georgia driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

· A medical examination will be required prior to appointment.

· Prior to hire, candidates will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, which may include employment verification, a DMV record check, and a criminal history check. Any information obtained will be used to determine eligibility for employment in accordance with the law.
